This is the highest level of designation under the Institute of Sport Management’s certification program. To be considered for admission as a Fellow, Institute of Sport Management, you’ll need to have first attained a prescribed level of competency as a result of work experiences and/or study, and been employed at least fifteen years, including eight years in a position of senior responsibility, in the sport & leisure industry or a relevant, associated industry recognised by the Institute of Sport Management.
To be eligible to obtain the F.I.S.M. certification, you must:
- derive your principal income from employment in the sport & leisure industry or relevant, associated industry, and
- have been employed a minimum of fifteen years, including eight years in a position of senior responsibility, within the sport & leisure industry or relevant, associated industry.
Additionally, any person who has in the ISM’s Certification Panel’s opinion rendered special services either to the ISM or to the sport management profession and has been nominated by a Fellow or C.P.S.M. may at the Director’s discretion be appointed an Honorary Fellow.
As a Fellow, Institute of Sport Management (F.I.S.M.) you will:
- be entitled to use the designation of F.I.S.M. post-nominals for the current year of financial membership;
- make a commitment to abide by the Institute of Sport Management Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct;
- undertake at least 60 hours of structured Continuing Professional Development per triennium;
- receive a Fellow, Institute of Sport Management certificate suitable for framing, displaying your commitment to ethical practice and ongoing professional development;
- receive a distinctive F.I.S.M lapel pin;
- have access to information and the opportunity to participate in ISM events, conferences & networks including special member offers and discounts on professional development opportunities;
- attain an ISM certification as part of a global network of Sport Managers.
If accepted for admission, cost of a F.I.S.M. is $AUD137 per annum.
Institute of Sport Management Membership is deemed to commence from the date of approval of the application and is subject to eligibility regulations including the applicant:
- agreeing to abide by a strict Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct;
- agreeing to undertake structured Continuing Professional Development each year, and
- attaining prescribed levels of competencies as a result of work experiences and/or study for the F.I.S.M. level.
